Works Protected by Copyright

The following types of works are protected under copyright law in Malaysia, whatever their quality and the purpose for which they were created :-

  1. Original literary works recorded on some medium e.g. novels, manuscripts, plays, reports, computer programs;
  2. Original musical works recorded on some medium;
  3. Original artistic works recorded on some medium, e.g. paintings, engravings, photographs, sculptures, works of architecture, diagrams (but excluding layout-designs of integrated circuits);
  4. Films;
  5. Sound recordings;
  6. Broadcasts;
  7. Published editions of works, i.e. the typographical arrangement of a publication;
  8. Derivative works, e.g. translations and adaptations of copyright work; collections of works or data.
